What's Happening

Time is flying for the Gwynne family. I can't believe Dave is only a few weeks away from spring break. Unfortunately, I don't get such a vacation, but I'm looking forward to a day trip we're planning to take then and having time off for the Easter holidays a few weeks later. My mind is mush after the combination of working overtime and losing an hour of sleep with the time change this weekend. (Note to self: You are no longer a college student who can easily stay up working until 1 am and get up five hours later to work again with no consequences.) All that to say, this is going to be a bullet list of updates.

  • Dave found out that he passed the last two tests required to become a certified teacher. Hooray! (I'm hoping this means that he'll no longer have a reason to avoid going to weddings with me. Hehe!)
  • In other Dave-related news, we found out yesterday that he is officially a permanent resident of this lovely country. It's always nice to get through another stage of the immigration process.
  • We've been getting into the current season of Amazing Race. It's the highlight of our Sundays, if not our entire week. Whenever we watch the show, I feel like hopping on a plane and going somewhere outside of the States. It's been 2 years since my last international trip, and I'm ready for another one! Do you watch the show? We're rooting for the cowboys and the Harlem Globetrotters.
  • Our involvement with the children's ministry at our church is going well. Today, there were 60 4- and 5-year-olds in my classroom! I often like to pray for my small group kids by name during the week, but I had about ten of them today--and I can't remember all their names. (Remember that mind-is-mush comment above?) Oh, well. :-) God will know who I'm talking about when I refer to them as my small-group kids.
  • Here's a funny story from today: Dave was longing for a taste of home, so after church we tried a new restaurant that is decorated to look like an English pub (sure, it's not Scottish, but we work with what we've got around here). Anyway, the name of the restaurant gives the impression it's going to be a nice place with offerings like shepherd's pie, fish 'n chips, and other British meals. Well, we take our seats and start looking at the menu, only to see a bunch of Greek dishes! What?! The only British thing on the menu was fish 'n chips. I ended up ordering a gyro (which was delicious), and Dave had fried chicken. The food was good, but I don't think we'll be going there again when hoping for a taste of the "old country."
There's an update of our lives. I'm going to finish my evening cup of decaf coffee and get some much-needed rest. Goodnight!
